Bordering on the Withlacoochee River in the southeast part of Citrus County you’ll find the small town feeling of years gone by, Floral City.  The Withlacoochee Trail, also known as Rails to Trails, a 46 mile trail for biking, walking and jogging, runs right through the center of town north to Dunnellon and south through Hernando County to the trailhead in Ridge Manor in Pasco County.  You’ll appreciate the beauty of the town’s pride and joy, Orange Avenue, with its Victorian homes and towering oaks. Orange Avenue is also the locale of the Candles & Carols event in December.  Christmas carols are sung from the porches of the homes along the mile long avenue which is closed to traffic and lit with luminaries. The homes in Floral City range from historic beauties to large farms, horse properties and planned communities to the many waterfront homes including those on Davis Island.  The small town spirit also shows itself in the well-attended Heritage Days, the Floral City Heritage Museum and the Strawberry Festival. Residents enjoy all this with close proximity to both Interstate 75 and the Suncoast Parkway for travel to Ocala & Orlando and to Tampa & Clearwater.
