Founded in the 1800s around the phosphate mining business in the northernmost
part of Citrus County, Dunnellon extends into Levy and Marion counties as well.
The Rainbow Springs State Park and the Dunnellon Historic District are the major
reasons the residents refer to the area as the Treasure of the Nature Coast.
Rainbow Springs State Park at the headwaters of the Rainbow River, popular for its
great tubing, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing and bass fishing.
Dunnellon takes great pride in all their parks including Blue Run, with a walking
trail, kayak launch and tuber exit. Centennial Park on the Withlacoochee has a boat
ramp, floating dock and a picnic facility and the Chaplin A. Dinkins Memorial Park
where the Rainbow River and the Withlacoochee come together is a great place for
gatherings. In addition to the waterfront and riverfront homes overlooking the
crystal clear waters and Lake Rousseau, there are several other subdivisions with a
